I wasn't seeing the Dead live in the 70's, first show was NYE 1980. So I missed the hiatus.

Now to the question at hand: I only got shut out of a show once, Brendan Byrne in 1984, 'twas the show that Mandojammer rated as the worst show of '84 - so a good one to miss. But it was quite frightening to be outside the Byrne with no ticket and the security looking for left-behind heads to harass. One year they killed a kid. I ended up having to run for my life. A nasty bunch of bully assholes...
